With director Yanillys Perez in person
Dir Yanillys Perez. 2016. 78 mins. Digital projection. In Spanish with English subtitles. Twelve-year-old Jeffrey has the responsibilities of an adult, working as a windshield washer on the busy streets of Santo Domingo to help his mother make ends meet at home. But he is also an aspiring reggaeton singer, collaborating with his older brother Jeyson to compose and record songs about his life, neighborhood, and hopes for the future. In this uniquely collaborative work of nonfiction, director Yanillys Perez follows the indefatigable Jeffrey from the street to the recording studio as he balances work, play, and show business dreams. Winner of the Discovery Filmmakers Award at the 2016 Toronto Film Festival.
