Stepping in front of the camera for a brief but memorable performance, Martin Scorsese plays the French painter Vincent Van Gogh. This free-form work by the great Japanese director Akira Kurosawa dramatizes eight of the filmmaker's dreams and is filled with lyrical, occasionally surreal imagery.
