Preserving Jim Henson’s Legacy: Perspectives on Four Collections
Karen Falk, Archives Director at The Jim Henson Company and Vice President of the Jim Henson Legacy, will interview colleagues from three institutions that collect, preserve, and exhibit material related to the singular career of Muppets-creator, director, and performer Jim Henson. Participating in the event are:
• Barbara Miller, Director of Curatorial Affairs, Museum of the Moving Image
• Jill Nash Malool, Museum Director, Center for Puppetry Arts
• Ryan Lintelman, Curator of the Entertainment Collection, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
These rich and varied collections include puppets and other material spanning all of Jim Henson’s work for television and film, from his earliest production, Sam and Friends, to television commercials, variety shows, experimental films, Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and the fantasy feature films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. The curators will describe the Henson material in their respective collections, the conservation challenges they face, how they share their collection with the public, the objects that are most meaningful to them, and more. The conversation, illustrated by images of objects from each collection, offers rare, behind-the-scenes insight into the work involved in ensuring Jim Henson’s legacy for generations to come.Donate here.
